Pymble Turramurra Preschool Staff and Our Credentials

Pymble Turramurra Preschool is a fully accredited Preschool.  Our teachers adhere to the Early Childhood Australia Code of Ethics.  They link classroom programmes to the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and all class materials are underpinned by the National Quality Framework (NQF), the National Law and the Education and Care Services Regulation 2011.

All educators at Pymble Turramurra Preschool have a strong commitment to the children, the Preschool and the community.  They are a dedicated group of professionals, with a wide range of training and skills.

There are three classes, each led by a University trained Early Childhood Teacher and assisted by a qualified Child Care worker.  An additional qualified Educational Support Teacher is on hand to assist with children with special needs and learning difficulties.  The Preschool Director holds a degree-qualified non-teaching position.

Our dedicated team of Educators contribute a high level of expertise and wide range of interests to Pymble Turramurra Preschool. All of our Teachers are very experienced and continue to develop professionally. They have a strong commitment to our Philosophy and sense of pride in maintaining our high quality service.

One of the things that makes Pymble Turramurra Preschool so special is the length of tenure of our educators.  Some of our teachers have been with Pymble Turramurra Preschool for decades, showing the dedication and commitment of our staff to the children and community of our Preschool.

Parents and our Volunteer Board of Management

Pymble Turramurra Preschool is incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act 1984.  We are a non-profit organisation run by a volunteer Board of Management (BOM), drawn from the Members.  The BOM is licensed to operate under Clause 32(1) of the Children (Care & Protection) Act 1987 and is responsible for all aspects of the control and management of the Preschool.

Membership of the Preschool ($3.00) for a parent is obligatory while their child is attending Pymble Turramurra Preschool and our Members (parents) elect the new BOM at the Annual General Meeting held in February/March each year. Full management information can be found in Pymble Turramurra Preschool’s Charter document.

As a community Preschool, parents are strongly encouraged to be actively involved in the leadership and workings of Pymble Turramurra Preschool.  This ensures the continued existence, overall progression and maintenance of the Preschool itself.

Our Environment

We are tucked into the end of a cul-de-sac within the suburban area of Turramurra. When you first enter our Preschool, you get an indication of the uniqueness of our beautiful environment.

Purposely planted with deciduous trees over 50 years ago, our garden reflects the seasonal changes of the year – a learning situation in itself.  There you will find recycling and compost bins, vegetable gardens, a worm farm, rain water tanks with thermometer and rain gauge readings, solar panels that supply power to the Preschool and which feed back to the grid.  The two hens and a take-home egg roster complete the organic nature of our Preschool.

The outdoor area encompasses climbing equipment, swings and a slide, a climbing tree and many spaces and places of wonder and delight. We pride ourselves in providing our children with an organic experience through which to explore and discover the natural world.

Our native garden is a sensory experience which, incorporated into our weekly curriculum, envelopes the best of our land’s heritage:  Native plants which attract native bird life, bush-tucker, a fish pond and indigenous artworks inspired by ancient paintings found in Kur-ring-gai National Park are intertwined with pavers bearing your children’s names.

The vegetable patch, the native garden, our worm farm and our composting provide an opportunity for the children to participate in gardening activities and in so doing, learn about plants, bush-tucker and sustainability practices that we feel is essential to their education.

Our Promise to the Custodians of our Land

Pymble Turramurra Preschool would like to acknowledge that it is operating on the traditional lands of the Guringai people.  It is a privilege to be standing on Guringai land, and we pay our respects to the leaders of the traditional custodians of this land.  Together we acknowledge the contributions of Aboriginal Australians and non-Aboriginal Australians to this country, and recognise the strength, resilience, and capacity of Aboriginal people in this land.

As a community Preschool, Pymble Turramurra Preschool fees are set annually by our volunteer Board of Management.  This covers the majority of our operating costs.  We also receive some funding from the NSW Government.

Fundraising is an important part of the long term plan for Pymble Turramurra Preschool, it provides about half of the money for capital improvements to the Preschool, additional materials for the children to use and extra activities for the children to experience.

While all participation in fundraising activities is voluntary, as a community Preschool it is strongly encouraged that each family become involved in and contribute to these fundraising efforts.

In addition, the Board of Management seeks government and corporate grants to help Pymble Turramurra Preschool launch and complete specialist projects.  These grants vary greatly in source and value however each and every grant received is used within the specifications of that grant.
